Gina Yi

Senior Resilience Strategist
Gina Yi is a Senior Resilience Strategist at Hawaiian Electric, an electric utility in the state of Hawaii whose service territories span the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii Island. In this role she has supported the company in securing funding for and planning resilience initiatives such as development of a hurricane resilience performance modeling tool EGRASS (in partnership with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)) and of its Wildfire Safety Strategy (WSS) for wildfire mitigation.
Prior to joining Hawaiian Electric, Gina served as Acting Chief Engineer at the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission where she oversaw the engineering section and participated in proceedings such as Performance-Based Regulation (PBR), Microgrid Services Tariff, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Integrated Grid Planning (IGP), and Grid Modernization.
Gina previously resided in DC where she worked for the defense industry writing computer programs for projects supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Gina holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
