Kristine Madden

Past President
Kristine is the Immediate Past President of the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC), a non-profit committed to empowering youth in decision-making roles, fostering global collaboration, and facilitating knowledge transfer within its network of over 100,000 young professionals across over 50 countries. Kristine is also a nuclear evaluator and safeguards inspector in the Office of the Deputy Director General and Head of the IAEA Department of Safeguards at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Prior to joining Safeguards, Kristine’s work focused on leading a team of international experts in the development of licensing guidelines for small modular reactors and severe accident management response in the IAEA Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. Before joining the IAEA, she worked in the commercial nuclear sector as a senior reactor operator and reactor engineer at US based nuclear power plants and abroad in Ukraine and the UK supporting the design and implementation of dry fuel storage systems and facilities.
Kristine was a fellow at the Harvard University based Arms Control Negotiation Academy from 2022 to 2023. She participated in the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) inaugural Future Arms Control Experts and Mid Career Cadres. Kristine holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Cambridge, U.K., and a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering and radiological sciences from the University of Michigan, U.S.A.
