Cindy Zhu has over 10 years of experience working at the intersection of the built environment, energy, and emerging technologies. She currently leads research efforts within Berkeley Lab’s role as National Coordinator of Dept of Energy’s Connected Communities program, a large scale demonstration effort to scale grid-edge technologies across building systems, distributed energy resources, and the electric grid. She has led major climate and energy initiatives in both public and private sectors, including at the U.S. DOE. Prior to joining the Lab, she was VP of Smart Buildings at NantumAI, an enterprise software company focused on using AI/ML to decarbonize the built environment, where she led the Customer Success & Grid Services teams. She holds a BS in Biological Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University and an MS in Environmental Policy & Sustainability Management from The New School.
