David Palchak leads research on the operations and planning of the bulk electric power grid at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Grid Planning and Analysis Center. David’s work has spanned the topics of grid reliability, wind and solar growth, transmission planning, energy storage, coal flexibility, demand response, and other topics related to maintaining a reliable, cost-effective electric power grid amid rapid changes in the sector. He has led research teams combining innovative power system modeling, data creation and analysis, and industry and government engagement to help prepare grid stakeholders for future electric power system challenges in the U.S. and internationally. David recently led the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Transmission Planning Study as part of a multi-lab team. Additionally, David has worked closely with countries, utilities, and grid planners across the globe to help them meet their renewable energy goals through technical grid studies, trainings, and program development.
