As Managing Director – Energy Solutions and Clean Energy, Karan plays a pivotal role in steering REC towards a sustainable future, focusing on the integration and expansion of energy solutions and clean energy technologies. Programs in this area aim to enlighten and involve members in embracing technologies that boost their energy independence and resilience, with an emphasis on sustainability.
Karan is at the forefront of developing and implementing member-focused strategic initiatives that encompass a broad spectrum of energy solutions including solar power, battery storage, backup generators, electric vehicles, energy efficiency, smart grid technologies, distributed energy resource management systems, and other innovative energy solutions. He plays a pivotal role in shaping REC’s future in energy solutions and clean energy, thereby providing significant benefits to REC’s members.
Karan joined REC in June of 2023 as the Staff Electrical Engineering Supervisor, where he provided oversight on the development and execution of the REC’s Construction Work Plan and Long Range System Study while managing a team of Planning Engineers. Prior to joining REC, Karan held previous roles including Field Engineering Manager at Voltus, Senior Engineer at ComEd-Distribution Automation, General Engineer at Pepco Holdings-Smart Grid, and Senior Distribution Engineering Assistant at Patterson and Dewar Engineers (P&D)-Distribution Engineering. Some of his key accomplishments included creating Virtual Power Plants (VPP) in PJM’s territory with Voltus, managing ComEd’s Line Sensor Program, leading Pepco Holding UAS Program along with various Connected Communities/Non-Wires Alternatives (NWA) Initiatives, and conducting various distribution system studies at P&D.
Karan earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. Karan is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), serves on Milsoft’s Advisory Board, and is a member of National Rural Electric Cooperative Associations’ (NRECA) Distributive Energy Resources (DER) Member Advisory Group (MAG).
