Dr. Rebecca Parkhurst is an Assistant Director in the technology assessment group of GAO’s Science, Technology Assessment, and Analytics (STAA) team. She has led and participated in a number of science and technology studies, including on carbon management, critical mineral recovery, and sustainable chemistry. Dr. Parkhurst also serves as a chemistry subject matter expert on audit work conducted by teams across the agency, supporting work on natural gas, illicit drug control, therapeutic drug regulation, and federal management of toxic chemicals. Prior to GAO, Dr. Parkhurst served as a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow in the Basic Research Office at the Department of Defense. She has a PhD in organic chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed a post-doc in polymer chemistry at the Adolphe Merkle Institute in Fribourg, Switzerland.
