Manager of Transmission Line Design
Jeffery L. Phillips is the Manager of the Transmission Line Design group of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Jeff graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BS degree in Civil Engineering and he has an AAS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Tennessee and has been with TVA for 24 years. He has designed over 400 miles of transmission lines ranging from 46-kV to 500-kV. He is currently responsible for all aspects of transmission lines including design, material ordering, construction supports and analysis. He has been an advocate for advanced conductors since 2009 and has been involved in the testing of these conductors in four different laboratories. He has authored several articles in technical magazines and white papers and also presented at the 2015 ASCE SEI Conference and the 2018 TDMMA Conference. He is a member of the NATF Transmission Line Core Team and has served on peer reviews for several different utilities. Jeff received the Federal Engineer of the Year Award in 2015, Department of Energy Achievement Award in 2018, Public Utilities Fortnightly’s 2023 Edison Pioneers Innovation of the Year Award and the TVA 2024 Igniting Innovation Strategist Award. Jeff is a United States Marine Corps veteran and served in the infantry from 1993-1997.
